Canberra's parks and reserves cover more than 60% of the ACT, making Canberra a very special place to live. They include Namadgi National Park, Tidbinbilla, Molonglo River Reserve, the Murrumbidgee River Corridor, the Lower Cotter Catchment and Canberra Nature Park.
It's important we have strong plans in place to guide how we manage and protect our parks and reserves and strike a balance between nature conservation, cultural heritage and community use. Please see below for more details.
The plan for the Murrumbidgee River Corridor, one of Canberra’s most popular places for nature-based recreation, is being reviewed with an opportunity to shape its future. Consultation is now closed but stay informed for updates on the management plan via the YourSay page.
On 19 June 2019, the ACT Government released the draft design for a new nature space planned for the Molonglo River Reserve and invited the community to comment on the designs.
This 35 hectare peninsula located on the edge of the river, will be a focal point for recreation, restoration and cultural activities for the Molonglo regions and broader Canberra community.
ACT Parks and Conservation Service asked to hear from you to better understand who uses our many reserves, forests and national parks, how they are used, and how we can better enhance user experiences.

The ACT Parks and Conservation Service has developed a new draft plan to guide management of Canberra Nature Park over the next 10 years. The park belongs to the community, so we were keen to hear the community’s views on the plan.
On 23 September 2019, the draft plan was released for a 12-week public comment period. Public information sessions were also held at several locations across Canberra. The submissions received will help inform the development of the final plan.
In early 2018 we asked your thoughts on how we could manage and protect Canberra’s newest reserve – the Molonglo River Reserve. Between 8 February and 23 March 2018 the Molonglo River Reserve Draft Management Plan was released for public comment.
This plan has now been finalised and will guide the management of the reserve for the next 10 years.
