About the Draft ACT Skate Strategy

The 2022-2024 Inquiry into Skateboarding and Skateparks in the ACT (the Inquiry) was initiated in response to community petitions. The Inquiry made 33 recommendations for government consideration. One of the recommendations was to develop a Draft ACT Skate Strategy (Draft Strategy), responding to community aspirations for better planning and support for skate culture.

The ACT Government has developed a Draft Strategy in collaboration with skating stakeholders, community groups, industry experts and government partners.

Now, we are seeking community feedback to help finalise the strategy.

The aim of the finalised ACT Skate Strategy will be to deliver a strong framework, clear objectives, practical actions and a pathway for ensuring that skating in the ACT continues to grow in a way that is inclusive, sustainable, strengthens community connection and supports creative expression and wellbeing.

The strategy will also support promotion of skate culture in the ACT as well as planning, designing, managing and operating skate infrastructure across the Territory.

What we're looking at

The Draft Strategy considers future opportunities to deliver safe, inclusive and accessible skate friendly infrastructure in public spaces across Canberra. The goals of the Draft Strategy are to:

  • preserve ACT skateboarding heritage
  • encourage the community to skate
  • provide modern, inclusive and safe skating infrastructure
  • incorporate skating infrastructure into public spaces
  • improve wellbeing and mental health
  • maintain existing skating infrastructure
  • service a variety of skating and recreational activities including street and park skateboarding, scooters, roller blades and BMX.

To learn about the objectives, we will use to reach these goals read the Draft ACT Skate Strategy below before completing the survey.
