Project status: In Progress

The ACT Government released a Discussion Paper on how it proposes to lower the bet limit on poker machines or electronic gaming machines (EGM) from $10 to $5 and to introduce a $100 credit (or load-up) limit for EGMs.

In 2022, community and key stakeholder views were sought on the government’s proposals outlined in the Discussion Paper including the staged introduction of a Central Monitoring System for electronic gaming machines.

The aim is to reduce the amount of money a person can spend during a session of playing the pokies.

The ACT Government is committed to reducing harm from electronic gambling machines while supporting the sustainability of community clubs and the valuable contribution clubs make to the ACT community.

We asked Canberrans to have their say on the Discussion Paper - Lowering bet and credit limits for electronic gaming machines.

Consultation opened on Friday 29 April 2022 and closed on Friday 3 June 2022.

Feedback on the Discussion Paper was accepted through submissions and an online survey.

A Listening Report on the feedback is available here.
