How to have YourSay

Every Canberran deserves a safe and secure place to live. We want to create more secure housing and a fairer rental system for all Canberrans, which is why we are modernising our tenancy laws.

We have developed a Public Exposure Draft of the Residential Tenancies Amendment Bill 2022, which have four key reforms:

  • ending no cause evictions
  • prohibiting rent bidding
  • establishing minimum standards for rental properties
  • ensuring renters have the freedom to grow their own food and to compost.

We know these reforms are important to most Canberrans, which is why we are ensuring you get to have YourSay along the way.

This is the second stage of community consultation after you gave us your feedback following the release of a Consultation Paper in 2021.

There are several ways for you to have YourSay on the proposed rental reforms but first you should take a look at the Public Exposure Draft of the Residential Tenancies Legislation Amendment Bill 2022.

Feedback is open until 26 August 2022.
