In March 2021 the Minister for Planning and Land Management invited expressions of interest from members of the community to join the ACT Place Names Advisory Committee.
The committee provides expert advice and recommendations to the government on all significant matters relating to place naming in the ACT.
People from across the ACT with a strong understanding of, and connection to the community were encouraged to apply.
Nominations for the committee closed on Monday 22 March 2021.
Following the selection process, six new members have been appointed to the ACT Place Names Advisory Committee.
The new appointments are:
- Mr Bradley Mapiva Brown
- Ms Roslyn Dundas
- Mr Tom McIlroy
- Mr Andrew Smith
- Ms Caterina Sullivan
- Dr Karen Williams
The new members join Dr David Headon, Mr Granville Allen Mawer, Dr Anne McGrath and Dr Marilyn Truscott, historians and heritage practitioners who were reappointed along with the Surveyor-General of the ACT and a representative of the National Capital Authority.

The new appointees have a strong understanding of, and connection to the Canberra community and come from a range of backgrounds, including from our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
