How you had YourSay:

Every year the ACT Government reviews the ACT Skills Needs List, to inform which vocational education and training (VET) qualifications are priorities for receiving ACT Government funding, and to ensure the list remains aligned with changing skills needs of employers in the ACT.

In this consultation, we provided you with the Draft ACT Skills Needs List 2019 parts A and B, and you told us which qualifications and skills are needed to support the ACT economy by:

  • filling out our short survey on the tab above
  • or taking the full online survey.

Thank you for providing your feedback. We've analysed your responses from both surveys and have now released a report on what we heard, and the final Skills Needs List 2019.

We are looking at:

The ACT Skills Needs List 2019 will inform priorities for ACT Government funding of VET qualifications. The List enables the ACT Government to better target training funding and subsidies to develop a productive and highly skilled workforce that contributes to the ACT’s economic future.

Skills Canberra is reviewing the list to ensure it remains aligned with the Territory’s skills needs. Members of the community were encouraged to comment on the Draft ACT Skills Needs List 2019, which was separated into two lists.

The Draft ACT Skills Needs List 2019 part A contained qualifications with a high likelihood of inclusion on the final list, while the Draft ACT Skills Needs List 2019 part B was made up of qualifications which are less certain to be included. Your feedback regarding the importance of qualifications on these two lists is critical in determining which qualifications are included on the final ACT Skills Needs List 2019.

Who could provide input:

All engagements are open to the whole Canberra community, yet this may be of particular interest to employers in Canberra.

Your views are being used to:

Your views helped to inform priorities for ACT Government funding of VET qualifications and finalise the ACT Skills Needs List 2019 which was released in October 2018.

The ACT Skills Needs List is important for both the Skilled Capital and Australian Apprenticeships (User Choice) initiatives. Qualifications on the Skills Needs List receive a higher Government contribution to VET study in the ACT. Only qualifications determined to be in high priority needs areas are funded under Skilled Capital. With the exception of Certificate II pathways qualifications and Skill Sets, a qualification must be on the ACT Skills Needs List to be funded through Skilled Capital. The highest priority funding band for User Choice consists entirely of ACT Skills Needs List qualifications.

Feedback you've provided on the Draft ACT Skills Needs List 2019 may also contribute to the development of the ACT Skilled Migration Occupation List.
