Bulky Waste survey

24 February 2020

We are launching a bulky waste collection service.

The service starts in July 2020 for Tuggeranong and Gungahlin.

The ACT No Waste team at Transport Canberra and City Services (TCCS) will deliver the service.

So the team can sustainably roll out the service, they asked Panel members how likely they would be to use it.

The also wanted to know more about how Panel members dispose of their 'hard' household waste - the stuff that doesn't go in any bins provided to your house.

  • Have you ever had to dispose of bulky ‘hard’ waste items? (For example, bed frames, chairs, fridges, dishwashers)

    89% of people answered yes.

  • How have you disposed of bulky waste in the past?

74% of people said they visited a Resource Management Centre like Mugga Lane.

26% of people said they'd placed it outside for collection, 'free to a good home', or for body corporate to remove.

17% said they'd put it in a standard rubbish bin.

  • How likely or unlikely would you be to use a free bulky waste collection service?

90% of people said they would be likely or highly likely to use this kind of service.

The survey opened on 22 November 2019 and closed on 27 November 2019.

1,182 Panel members completed the survey.

Members aged 16 and 17 years did not participate in the survey as we were primarily seeking feedback home from home owners and renters aged 18 years and older.
