The concept masterplan for the Dickson Streetscapes seeks to create a safer, more walkable, comfortable, attractive, cycle-friendly and sustainable public realm. It includes:

  • Better pedestrian crossings
  • More consistent, wide paths for pedestrians and cyclists
  • More plants and tree cover
  • Improved spaces for street art, seating and outdoor dining
  • better lighting, bike racks and other amenities
  • More consistent paving materials and infrastructure, to improve visual appeal.

Proposed features

Pedestrians

  • Additional pedestrian (zebra) crossings to improve connectivity.
  • All crossings raised to encourage traffic to slow down and for improved accessibility.
  • More consistent footpath quality and width.

Cyclists

  • Minimum 3-3.5m wide shared paths along all streets, with clear sightlines at crossing points.
  • Slower speed environment to support on-road cycling.
  • More bike racks.

Public Transport

  • Improved wayfinding and clear sightlines across the area.

Private Vehicles

  • Site-wide speed reduction.
Climate Resilience and Sustainability
  • Increased tree canopy coverage.
  • More climate-resilient tree species.
  • Permeable surfaces, rain gardens and other water sensitive urban design initiatives features.

Amenity

  • Better quality public seating.
  • Improved lighting.
  • More bike racks.
