What we looked at

The Regional Fire Management Plan (RFMP) outlines how bushfire fuel management will be conducted on ACT Government-managed land. The RFMP is a ten-year plan with a five-year review and balances fire fuel management with all the other values that the natural estate is managed for in the ACT.

See the final plan in the storyboard below.

You can also see the new Fire Management Zones on the Strategic Bushfire Management Plan webpage.

Watch our videos that help explain how and why we conduct fire management in the ACT:

  1. Welcome and introduction (4 minutes)
  2. Changes to fire management zones (8 minutes)
  3. Residual risk drives bushfire management activities (11:30 minutes)
  4. Ecological considerations and impacts (10 minutes)
  5. The revised Regional Fire Management Plan and where to from here (4 minutes)

We used your views to

The final RFMP gives us a great plan for maintaining our natural bush landscape. It will guide us in managing the fuel load in different fire risk zones to help keep Canberrans safe while protecting our threatened species and ecological communities.

The annual and more detailed Bushfire Operational Plans (BOPs) are drawn from the RFMP. The annual BOP includes a range of activities and fuel treatments, such as prescribed burning, fire trail maintenance, slashing and physical removal as well as grazing to reduce grass fuels.
