Project status: Closed

This consultation is now closed. Thank you for your feedback that helped design the refresh of a portion of Florey Oval.

The Final Design

The design for the Florey Oval Refresh has been shaped by feedback from Florey Primary School students and the local community during the public consultation process which closed in September. It was further developed during November with the school and representatives of the Ngunnawal community.

This project will deliver a natural open space that promotes a healthier lifestyle for students and the community. It will be an engaging space for students at Florey Primary School to access and enjoy as part of their learning. Outside of school hours, this public space will enable the wider community to relax, exercise and connect.

The input from Florey Primary School, the local community and the Ngunnawal community has been invaluable to the design process, with key insights shaping the final design (below):

Next steps

The project is now in procurement. Construction work will begin in July 2023.

Community members were invited to have their say

We invited the community, including Florey Primary School students, to have their say to shape the future elements of this area. A summary of the feedback is available to view in the ‘What We Heard’ Report.

Why an oval refresh?

The Education Directorate will refresh a portion of the Florey dry land oval to maximise outdoor space for students at Florey Primary School.

We have already heard some great ideas from the school community and through this YourSay, we hope to hear more ideas from the school community and wider community to shape this oval's future.

The ACT Government is committed to delivering natural open spaces that promote a healthier lifestyle for students and the community, providing habitats for wildlife and to mitigate climate change impacts.

The Education Directorate is working closely with Transport Canberra and City Services (TCCS) on this project and feedback received through this engagement will help shape future plans for the oval.

Planning, design, construction and maintenance will be undertaken in partnership with Florey Primary School, local community, Transport Canberra and City Services (TCCS), Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate (EPSDD) and other interested stakeholders.
