Help shape a new neighbourhood in the heart of South Canberra

The ACT Government is commencing early planning for a new residential development in the North Curtin area. The Woden District Strategy identifies the North Curtin site as a Change Area Category 2 (between 0 – 10 years) for urban intensification.

This new neighbourhood will be located between Yarralumla and Curtin, alongside the future Light Rail to Woden.

The North Curtin Residential Area will help cater for projected population growth in Canberra in a central location that has access to a wide range of transport and amenity.

The area is zoned for Residential Use in the National Capital Plan and will provide a variety of housing options to accommodate diverse preferences and requirements for future residents.

The future development of the site will be a medium density community, with low to medium rise buildings. Future development on the site is unlikely to include the traditional single-family homes with a large garden space.

Early planning will inform the draft Detailed Conditions of Planning, Design and Development (Planning Conditions) and demonstrate possible approaches to future develop which would potentially achieve approximately 1300 homes, provide local open spaces and connections to the surrounding areas.

This is the first stage of planning for the future development of the site. Your feedback and ideas will contribute to the finalisation the draft Planning Conditions for endorsement by the National Capital Authority (NCA). Future development applications for the site will be assessed against the final Development Controls.

These Planning Conditions will help to develop the North Curtin Residential Area in a sustainable way and contributes positively to the surrounding community.
