Several ACT-wide initiatives, supported by the Justice and Community Safety Directorate, are available to residents and contribute to a safer, more connected community.


Home Security & Crime Prevention

SafeHome Program
  • Helping ACT residents improve home security, especially those vulnerable to property crime. Services include:
    • Free in-home safety assessments by trained assessors
    • Minor home modifications for eligible households
    • Free workshops for community groups on home security strategies

Outsmart the Offender (OTO) Campaign
  • A public awareness initiative in partnership with ACT Neighbourhood Watch and Crime Stoppers, encouraging residents to:
    • Stay alert to crime risks
    • Take proactive steps to protect their property
    • Report suspicious activity


Support for First Nations Communities

Cultural Healing Men’s Group
  • Supports First Nations men in:
    • Reconnecting with culture
    • Healing from trauma, addiction, and incarceration
    • Building confidence and making positive life choices
Yhurwan Bullan Program
  • Designed for First Nations women:
    • On community service orders or at risk of incarceration
    • Offers cultural connection, support services, and healing activities
Toora Women Inc. – Culturally Sensitive Counselling
  • Funded to deliver trauma-informed, culturally appropriate counselling through:
    • Coming Home and Phoenix programs
    • Support for women involved in the justice system or reintegrating post-incarceration


Youth Engagement & Diversion

Project 180 – Canberra PCYC
  • A diversion program for at-risk youth, encouraging:
    • Positive behaviour change
    • Community engagement through structured activities
EveryChance
  • Provides grants to cover:
    • Full sports registrations
    • Equipment and other costs for disadvantaged youth referred by PCYC
    • Youth Crime Prevention Campaign
    • Led by ACT Region Crime Stoppers, this campaign:
    • Engages young people in crime prevention
    • Promotes anonymous reporting
    • Builds trust between youth and law enforcement


Victim Support ACT (VSACT)

VSACT offers free, confidential support to victims of crime, regardless of whether the crime was reported.

  • Services include:
    • Counselling and psychological support
    • Court support and advocacy
    • Help applying for financial assistance
    • Information on victims’ rights and justice processes
    • Outreach for Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and multicultural communities

    • Collaborate with community and support agencies
